Collision Elision
Is there a good name for a collision company? Is there a bad one?
Here is The Ferry Collision on Victory Boulevard on Staten Island, through the salt-streaked window of an S61 bus. It's just uphill from the St. George Ferry Terminal and before you get to New Asha, one of the Sri Lankan restaurants on the island.

Pinwheel Boy Loves Train Delays
Posters on the subway platform at 82nd St./Jackson Heights rarely offer anything interesting to look at, much less read. So I was pleased to see this impromptu character show up on the Lim College advert.
Vying with the Cardvaark for subway mascot status?

Belt-Drive
Free to a good home: Vintage 1960's Dual semi-automatic turntable with original tinted lift-off dust cover. Staples was good about taking old DVD players, jammed shredder, and even a VHS player, but they drew the line at turntables ("We don't really sell those.")
P.S. The shovel stays in the trunk.

Los Carros!
New Years is a good time to lighten the load a bit. That's how I came across an issue of Educación y educadores, a journal published by Universidad de La Sabana in Colombia, a souvenir from a conference I participated in there a year ago. I don't read Spanish so . . . the recycling box. But take a look a this cover image.
That's La chatarra de Jeisson (Dodge Charger), a watercolor by Fèlix Antonio Plaza Carvajal, a student at the university. Inside are more painting of the cars of friends and family, including El carro de Dona Betty (Chevrolet Desoto 1956) and El viejo Cadillac de mi abuelo (Cadillac Fleetwood 1958).
It's hard to tell from the paintings whether the cars are parked in Colombia or the United States. Either way, Que chévere! (Colombian for how awesome!)
