An otherwise clear and warm crossing on the S.I. Ferry. Tourists in town for Memorial Day. Sailors in town for Fleet Week. A wisp of fog hugging the Staten Island side of the VNB.

Right on cue, summer arrived in southern Rhode Island this Memorial Day weekend.

The Del's Frozen Lemonade trucks are on the streets with their snow-capped lemon and refreshingly different punctuation.

Drink up, and hope you get that wedge of fresh lemon in your paper cup.

Much of my drive up the Merritt Parkway on Saturday morning looked like this.

Waze Hates BQE

The Verrazano Narrows Bridge seen from the Belt Parkway. On a couple trips to Queens (or beyond) from Staten Island, Waze, the popular directions and pothole avoidance app, has directed me the long way around. (Apparently, Waze doesn't have a "nice smell" filter.)

Cresting the Rise

A good morning for coasting in Stonington, Connecticut. A sport and gas-saver learned from my father so many years ago.

The goal is always to be able to just make it over the rise in neutral, then pick up speed on downhill side. Almost made it when a car came up from behind. Back in gear.
